Location

Located on the southern tip of the Baja California Sur Peninsula is a mountainous desert location that separate the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California better known as the Sea of Cortez, named by Jack Cousteau as the largest aquarium in the world. Weather

With a desert, semi-tropical environment, Los Cabos enjoys an ideal climate, clear skies, and sunny days. The average temperature ranges from 19°C to 26.7°C (50°F to 80°F) from November to April and from 21°C to 35°C (70°F to 95°F) from May to October. The average annual rainfall is 12.7 to 24 cm (5 to 10 inches), with most of the precipitation occurring in September. The coldest months are December and January. Even in winter, the water temperature rarely drops below 21°C (70°F), maintaining an average temperature of 23.8°C (75°F).

Entry requirements and procedures

Customs Form and Visa: It's common to receive a customs form and a tourist visa form (FMM - Forma Migratoria Múltiple) on the flight or at the airport before landing in Mexico. You may be required to fill out the information on these forms.

Visa and Passport: Upon arrival at a Mexican airport like Los Cabos International Airport, you will go through immigration. You should present your passport along with the visa form (FMM). Other documents that can serve as proof of citizenship include a certified birth certificate, voter ID, naturalization papers, or a citizenship certificate.

For Return Flight: It's advisable to keep a copy of your visa (FMM) with you during your stay in Mexico, as you may need it when checking in for your return flight to the United States. Read more about the digital FMM

Traveling with Children: If parents are traveling alone with children, there may be requirements for providing a notarized letter of consent from the absent parent to leave and return to the country of origin. Customs Declaration: After clearing immigration, you will retrieve your luggage and proceed to customs to present your declaration. You are expected to declare any items you are bringing into Mexico, and customs officials may inspect your luggage.

Traffic Light System: The mention of a "traffic light" system where you press a button and the displayed light determines whether your luggage will be inspected is not uncommon. However, the specific procedures and systems may vary by airport.

No Visa Requirement: For short tourist stays (up to 180 days), US citizens do not need a visa to enter Mexico.

Transportation

Once you land at San José airport, it will take you approximately 15 minutes to claim your luggage and 20 minutes to reach San José downtown or 45 minutes to get to Cabo San Lucas. If you come with transport from the airport to your hotel included you do not have to worry about anything, you have to follow the instructions given to you at the time of booking, and you will be at your hotel as soon as possible. If on the other hand, if the vacation package you purchased does not include transportation, you can take a taxi directly from the airport to take you to your destination, or take the bus that leaves from the airport and travels the road to Cabo San Lucas.
