Welcome to OUR BLOG

Solaris Wildlife

Hello Fellow Readers, we want you to get to know a little bit more about your Solaris Resorts, and how we have contributed with Nature since the first stone was set on the beach.

As you know, the Cancun and Quintana Roo area, are enriched with Vast nature, like Jungle, mangroves, Coral Reefs, and their inhabitants, like fish, crocodiles, turtles, birds, and some far zones you can Find Jaguars and monkeys.

So I will embark to tell you, how the Solaris hotels have bonded together with the beautiful creatures that surround us.

Eagles

Trained Hawks in Cancun

First lest talk about the Eagle, yes, when you visit Cancun, specifically Club Solaris GR Caribe, on top of the main building, you might have noticed a nest, well that belongs to our Resident Eagle , who has been with us for the past several years, patrolling the skies with its enormous wings, actually I have been told by our Security and prevention department that there are eaglets currently beeing nurture up there, that we will be able to see in the upcoming month flying around the Resort.

Hawks

This is not part of the hotel, as they are trained Attack hawks, they come here from the company control Aviar del Sureste, who each Wednesday come, so the kids can take pictures of them, and pet them, these beautiful but fierce animals, are trained to do one thing : Keep away all of the other birds, like Crows, pigeons and even some seagulls, who come by the pool, to see what they can steal from you to eat, they have a schedule, where they visit different hotels each day, so You could see them in pairs or Alone, the name of the birds of prey are: Sash, Tequila & chilaquil.

Sea Turtles at the Solaris Hotels in Cancun

Turtles

As you may know because we talk about it before, Turtles are a big part of the Ecosystem, and each year they come ashore to nest in the beautiful beaches of Cancun, and our hotel is not the exception to welcome these beautiful creatures ( not all the hotels have zones for nesting), well because of this, we have a special area that is guarded by our Security and prevention department, where each night after they patrol the beach, they moved the nests from the beach to this area, that will avoid in a 90 % the attack of natural Predators form the Zone: Seagulls, eagles, storks, and crabs.

For over 20 Years Solaris has taken care of these little creatures, there are 3 types of Turtles that come lay eggs here: the Carey, the White, and the Cahuama, the average of turtles that are set back to the Sea, after being nursed in our temporary camps is 13963 per year, as some years they are fewer turtles laying eggs, The Prevention Department in Charge of Mr. Leonardo Martell, takes pride in the safety of these creatures, taking courses each year form the Biology department of the State of Quintana Roo.

Iguanas

Iguanas at the Solaris Hotels in Cancun

From time to time, you can see in our gardens or nearby the pool this giant lizard, although seem mean, they do not attack people, they just mind their own business, and come to suntan. They move slowly but creepy.

As a Big Advice, please do not try to feed them, their diet is based on small insects, and mosquitos, and giving them regular food, will make them sick, I actually saw one yesterday that passed by a piece of pasta, and didn’t even try to eat it, but a daredevil crow did, so it was trying to get it, without upsetting the iguana ( they do bite the crows as they are bullies with them).

There you have it, Solaris is commitment to the preservation of the Wildlife in the zone, starting with the ones that are permanent gust of our resort, help us continue doing this, by following the rules, and letting people form the Security department, of anything outside of the ordinary, or if you spot a turtle nest in the middle of the beach, lets all contribute to have a healthier environment, and Hope you can meet our little creatures,in your next trip.
